Blush and Blue Spring Accents in the Living Room

So, I confess, it’s not really spring.  The morning I took these photos it was 4 degrees outside!  There also is an abundance of snow on the ground.  But March provides such a shift in the amount of sunshine that tricks our brains into happy thoughts of such things like the hope of spring.  And, frankly, I’m done with winter.  Ok, so I don’t have a choice I realize, besides a move south, however, I can make it spring on the inside.

When I was doing this photo shoot of my sweet little girl and her blue rose headband, her dress became the inspiration for my spring décor.  A little bit of blush with blue.

Blue and Blush Inspiration

Although blue isn’t technically a neutral, I’m finding it works well with a lot of different colors as accents.  And blue with simple, subtle blush accents has me swooning over the idea of spring.

I think finally having another girl in the house sort of wooed me towards this color inspiration.  I already had the faux flowers on hand, and the pink velvet pillow shams I actually found on clearance at Target after Christmas for only $3!  I bought them to cut up and make something for my daughter.  And that may happen eventually, but for now, I thought a spring palette of blue and blush sounded very sweet and refreshing.  Not too much blush, after all, we have 5 males with a healthy does of testosterone residing here.  So really, the balance in the color is similar to the gender ratio in our home, a lot of blue with accents of blush.

The velvet tufted ottoman was first introduced here when I repurposed an old thrifted coffee table.  And I daresay, it remains the prima-donna of furniture, setting the stage for a bit of French Country decor in Alaska.  It is cozy for feet to rest on, it is inviting for books and coffee to borrow space upon, and usually it has a few Lego men hidden within the tufts.  (It has even withstood the practical test of time and boys, stains have easily wiped up, and even a pencil mark was erased from memory.)  But always, it sets the stage for beauty and comfort in our main living space.

I shared this photo previously on the French Country Candlestick Makeover.  The organ sits just to the left of the sofa, tying all in.  Candlesticks restored to French Country Decor

The sweet and sophisticated linen sofa sits separating the living area from the dining area and is always adorned with a plethora of pillows to sink into.

I’m totally crushing on this blue with blush accents for spring.  It’s always fun playing house with the seasons.
